Antiques Road Trip star David Harper revealed he was almost arrested while filming an episode of the BBC show. The 58-year-old previously went on the hunt for antiques with a famous face for a celebrity edition of the programme, but the duo almost found themselves on the other side of the law. David, who has been a staple on the programme since 2012, explained that while filming with this star, the person almost got them both arrested.

Speaking to Express.co.uk in 2019, he said: “I met one very famous celebrity who almost got me arrested.” He went on to describe how the excited celebrity couldn’t stop talking about winning the rear of the year award and the excitement caused things to get out of hand. “We were filming and he had just been awarded rear of the year, which if you know who this character is, this got him very excited,” he recalled.

Not divulging any details about the mysterious person in question, David continued: “So he couldn’t stop talking about it and then he started showing his rear. Luckily he kept his underpants on which were very skimpy and a bit shocking!” David recalled.

The situation escalated to the point where they almost got arrested, with police involvement, public complaints and accusations of indecent exposure. He declared: “He was showing his rear so much, things developed and we almost got arrested! The police got involved, public complaints were involved and indecent exposure was involved.”

Despite the chaos, David said everything was resolved in the end and he doesn’t mind when things go wrong, as it makes for a “good story”.

Throughout his tenure on Antiques Road Trip, David has hunted for hidden treasures with various stars including Debbie McGee, Kelly Brook, Nigel Harman, and Denise van Outen in star-studded specials.

Pressed to nominate his favourite celebrity who he has worked with on the sjow, David confessed in 2019 that the decision was “difficult”. Yet, he conceded that working with some personalities can be notably “challenging”.

He divulged: “There are always challenging people as we know in life and the world of celebrity is not exclusive to that.”

David continued: “There have been challenging ones, often more challenging for the crew. Some are a bit demanding, they’re surprised there isn’t a two hour lunch break etc…”

Describing the added pressure when stars are involved, David disclosed: “Especially when you’re with a celebrity, it doesn’t always go to plan. You’re meant to be an expert, and when it all goes badly wrong, they look at you like you have got some sort of lurgy and they want to get away from you as quickly as possible.”
