Adolescence’s Owen Cooper has revealed that he’s faced some teasing at school ahead of filming Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights with Margot Robbie

Adolescence star Owen Cooper has revealed that he was teased at school for a week after changing his hair style for an upcoming role. The Netflix star is set to play a young Heathcliffe in Wuthering Heights and revealed on This Morning that he chopped his floppy fringe off for the part.

When asked about his hair style by host Ben Shephard said: “It was for the role and it does really fit the role as well.” Ben added: “But you’ve got to go back to school on Monday without your floppy bits?”

Owen said: “No, I’ve been in school without all this and there was about a week where I was taken the mick out of but they’ve gotten over it now.”

Owen, 15, is the breakout star of Netflix hit Adolescence – Stephen Graham’s four-part drama which follows the family of a young boy who’s arrested for murder. The series, which has received critical acclaim since arriving on Netflix in March, marks Owen’s first acting role.

Owen takes on the role of Jamie – a 13-year-old student who is arrested on suspicion of stabbing his classmate Katie to death. Line of Duty’s Stephen Graham, who co-wrote the show, stars as Jamie’s dad Eddie while Top Boy’s Ashley Graham plays detective Luke Bascombe.

The teen actor may be new to the industry, however he has a secret link to Coronation Street’s Tina O’Brien, who recently revealed that Owen trained at her acting school. Re-sharing a post from actor Rico Morris, who credited Drama MOB for “building the foundations to this talent”, Tina said: “Elitist mentality that anything in the North isn’t worth mentioning.

“Thank you for highlighting this Rico. We work incredibly hard at the Drama MOB and we are very proud of the work we do and will continue to do.”

Owen’s co-star Erin Doherty recently opened up about a “scary” moment while filming episode three’s intense pre-trial assessment scene. Praising Owen’s performance as Jamie, Erin said in an interview with Variety: “It was genuinely scary.

“It’s every actor’s dream to get to a place where you forget yourself and you are in this strange reality that you’ve created. It sounds bizarre, but you genuinely do believe it in the moment.”
