Bernie was rescued as a stray and is now the sweetest, most hopeful dog there ever was.
“He is the cuddliest dog I’ve ever met,” Killian Duborg, Bernie’s mom, told The Dodo. “[He] just wants to be on our laps all the time and is overall very sweet and very lazy.”
When he and his family moved to a new neighborhood about a year ago, Bernie’s positive outlook finally helped him manifest his dreams: He found a discarded bagel in a bush while out on a walk with his mom.
“There was a bagel completely covered in ants that I had to pry out of his jaws,” Duborg said. “But despite that hardship, he never forgot the bagel bush.”
From that moment on, Bernie insisted on going past the bagel bush on every walk to check and see if it had produced any more bagels. It had been the best find of his life, and he refused to give up hope that it might happen again.
Duborg posted about Bernie and his daily trips to the bagel bush on TikTok — and people had very strong opinions about how Bernie’s mom should proceed.
“You have the power to make it happen,” one commenter wrote.
So Duborg decided to make Bernie’s dreams come true by planting a bagel in the bagel bush before their walk for Bernie to find.
“The bagel bush blooms today,” Duborg wrote on TikTok.

As they approached the bush, Bernie was just as hopeful as he always is — and when he saw the bagel, he was overjoyed. He carried it gingerly all the way home, snacking a little along the way, before settling onto the couch to fully enjoy it. All of his dreams had come true, and he has hope that’ll happen again.
“People on TikTok love Bernie and his bagel walks, and we’ve gotten so many sweet comments about other dogs and their food bushes around the world,” Duborg said. “The internet also thinks I should plant bagels there every day.”
