MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow ripped into a series of moves by President Donald Trump as she accused the MAGA administration of overstepping its legal bounds and pushing wildly unpopular and “obviously corrupt” policies.

The bruising analysis came Monday during the opening minutes of Maddow’s primetime show, which she now hosts one night a week. This week, she offered to viewers a rundown of recent efforts by the Trump White House to remove staff from agencies she said it doesn’t control. That includes last week’s firing of the Librarian of Congress as she zeroed in on the president’s authority – or lack thereof – to make personnel decision under congressional authority.

“It’s certainly not the library of the President. Can you imagine?” Maddow said Monday. “No, it’s the Library of Congress. That’s a hint that that’s part of the whole Congress thing.”

But Maddow was just getting started. She next hit Trump where it hurts the most: his popularity.

“That’s kind of the theme at this point, the fight back, which is understandable because if you look at the polls, they are not popular,” Maddow said of Trump’s recent moves. “And if you look at their actions, they are not smart. And if you look at the headlines, they are doing things that are flagrantly and obviously corrupt.”

She added: “And every single day, on top of being unpopular, unsmart, and obviously corrupt, they are continually doing things that have zero constituency. Doing things for which literally no one is in favor, except for the proverbial cartoon villain twirling his mustache somewhere.”

The MSNBC host went on to cite reports from the last few days, including that the administration is halting research to help babies with heart defects and gutting a federal infant death prevention campaign, moves that have reportedly alarmed doctors and other experts.

“Who wants that? Who’s the constituency for that?” a baffled Maddow asked.
